Statement of Basic Christian Faith and Doctrine: Short Form
I am a Trinitarian evangelical, believing in the full humanity and divinity of Jesus Christ.
I believe that the Bible truthfully records his miracles, life, death and resurrection, and is a faithful eyewitness of these things.
I believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, inerrant in all that it affirms.
I believe that humans are born in a state of depravity, inherited from a literal Adam, and this state gives them a propensity toward more sin, rebellion against God, and a desire for “broken” living.
I believe that Jesus Christ’s atoning death is the only hope for a human being to be able to gain access to heaven, and eternity in a state of bliss. By contrast, Hell is a real and eternal destiny for all who remain in their sin. This final state is fully just, and God is under no obligation to rescue our rebellious race from this status. For him to do so is a sovereign act of mercy, and that he so acts is a testimony to his kindness and compassion on our race.
I believe that the Holy Spirit indwells all those who have believed in Jesus for their salvation, and that they are empowered to do service for Jesus Christ and his church through gifts sovereignly given by God.
I believe that those who receive Jesus Christ as savior are to be baptized in the name of the Triune God. This baptism confers no other effects or benefits of itself, though a new sense of holiness, consecration, empowerment, peace is often reported by participants in this rite of the church.
Concerning Marriage and Sexuality
I am committed to a belief that’s God’s best for his people in regard to sexuality is contented singleness. Where a person is not content with singleness, God has made provision of marriage between two people of opposite sex. The plain teaching of scripture provides no other options.
Theological Influences
Some find it helpful to pinpoint a person based on influences. My training reflects the theological emphases taught in places like Dallas Theological Seminary and Grace Theological Seminary. Bible teachers I have listened to and appreciated over the years include Charles Swindoll, Max Lucado, David Jeremiah and Charles Stanley.
These commitments are stated without scripture references for brevity sake. If you would like to see a fuller statement complete with references, let me know, and I will be happy to supply you with a full doctrinal statement.
